How’d We Reach This Edge? – Explorations in Contemporary Art & Dance

Atheneum

Every Other Tuesday at 6 pm, Villa Maria Cristina, La Presa, Guanajuato, 60 pesos pp.

GTO ATHENEUM, a new joint project from the English Language Library of Guanajuato and Cinemanimal, is restarting Tuesday evening film screenings and cocktail discussions at Villa Maria Cristina with two simultaneous series focused on understanding what’s at play in contemporary dance and art. The bi-weekly series starts July 25 with screenings starting at 6 PM every other Tuesday.

Films in these series were chosen to cover a wide basis, starting with a compendium of Hollywood dance classics and a 1970s look into New York’s art scene in the 1950s and 1960s through the eyes of leading participants. From there we will get groupings of short films that introduce some of the central players in each field, after which we will see full works about some key, and still-controversial, artists.

GTO Atheneum’s screenings will be facilitated by Cinemanimal, who will be reviving its lively series of contemporary and silent films at both its new home at Bar Antigua in Centro, and orchestra-accompanied silent film nights at the MIQ and other locations every other month starting in August.
