The Music of Languages

Babel is not the right idea. Language creates symphonies. The Music of Languages is a reading of poetry and short prose sponsored by the English Language Library (and La Presa Literary) dedicated to the beautiful sounds of literature in a variety of languages… those we know such as Spanish and English as well as some we are less familiar with (French, Ukrainian, German, Japanese, Italian, Otomi and perhaps Nahuatl and Thai). We will present the spoken word as music, but we will also offer translations and/or explanations of what we are hearing.

Come celebrate the breadth that is literature, the width of humanity!

Child Art Exhibition

Miriam de Uriarte will curate an exhibition of child art by young GTO artists at the library in June. More details to follow… Please get in touch with us about showing your work, both in the library and elsewhere around this wonderful city.

T-shirts

The English Language Library of Guanajuato has new t-shirts for sale at 500 pesos apiece, in small, medium, large, and x-large sizes, adorned with quotes by Joan Didion, Malcolm Lowry and Jane Austen for this batch. Come by the library to purchase, or pay online via Paul’s Clip account, bring receipt, and pick up later!

Cinemanimal

As some of you may already know, Cinemanimal has been undergoing some changes. It is moving out of its magnificent space on Paseo de la Presa, in the old PAN mobile headquarters, and resuming residence upstairs in Antigua Bar with more special screenings being planned at a variety of institutions and spaces around Guanajuato. They are also working on an innovative streaming service for members wanting to access their unique programming.
